Frequently Asked Questions

To put it simply, Libertarians are people who believe we have the Constitutional right to live our lives as we wish, without government interference. And we think other people should have that right too (as long as they don’t violate the rights of others). Politically, this means Libertarians are in favor of a lot less government than we have now, and fewer laws that regulate the economy and people’s personal habits.

Libertarians are neither. Instead, we “borrow” what is best of both sides to come up with a logical whole. For instance, Libertarians tend to agree with Conservatives on the need for freedom in economic matters; in favor of lower taxes, less regulation of business, and less government welfare. However, Libertarians also agree with Liberals on freedom in personal matters; in favor of people’s right to choose their own habits and life-styles. In other words, Libertarians advocate a high degree of both personal and economic liberty.

Just ask yourself a few questions: Is government too big or too small? Are taxes too high or too low? Does government control your personal affairs too much or not enough? Does government control your business too much or not enough? If you agree, like most Americans, that government is too large, too meddlesome, and too expensive, the Libertarian Party may be for you!
