Today marks the fifth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Kelo v. New London decision. Today the Libertarian Party published the following open letter:
"We, the state chairs of the Libertarian Party, and members of the Libertarian National Committee (LNC), wish to call attention to the fifth anniversary of the wrongful Kelo v. New London decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
After many long months the voters of Dunbarton have finally been heard. On Friday, June 4, the Secretary of State's office finally certified the 276 nominating papers collected from Dunbarton voters last summer as part of the official count to have the names of Libertarians Ken Blevens for U.S. Senate and Howard Wilson for Congress (2nd district) on the November 2010 ballot.
MANCHESTER -- At its annual convention last week, the Libertarian Party of NH endorsed the proposed spending cap for Manchester on the November ballot. Several party members helped with collecting signatures for the measure and were deeply disappointed at the delay created by some on the city council forcing the voters of Manchester to wait an extra year before having their say on whether this measure should be adopted.
CONCORD -- Today the NH House has the opportunity to concur with their colleagues in the Senate and agree to their amendment to HB436. The Libertarian Party of NH asks them to say "yes" and move the bill on to the Governor's desk.
The bill is arguably an improvement over the version that passed the House, and so we would expect it to have a majority support. The bill provides protection for religious freedom and would not force any clergy to perform a marriage rite outside the teachings of their faith. So everyone's rights are protected.
MANCHESTER-- At the party's annual convention this Saturday, a resolution was put forth to formally endorse the spending caps which will be on the ballot in Rochester and Somersworth in November. It passed unanimously.
The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire nominated Susan “Liberty Sue” Newell, of Winchester, as its 2008 candidate for governor. The party submitted 4,485 voter signatures to the Secretary of State this month, well over the 3000 required to qualify for the ballot. Newell joins Ken Blevens, Bob Kingsbury, Chet Lapointe and Bob Barr at the top of the Libertarian ticket on the November ballot.
MANCHESTER -- Former congressman and Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr will be making his first official campaign visit to New Hampshire on Tuesday, July 22. He will spend the day giving interviews and talking with fellow candidates. At 8:00pm there will be a meet and greet event at Murphy's Taproom, 494 Elm St, Manchester.
